These delicious characters were developed in cooperation with DDB Canada, Sons & Daughters and AXYZ.
The little shaker, Salty, went through numerous design iterations before becoming the bubble-headed sad sack that we all know and love.
He touched the hearts of consumers world-wide through a beautiful and moving television commercial put together by the creative team at Sons and Daughters with visual effects by AXYZ. In addition to the televised advertisement, Salty was also featured on in-store displays and viral YouTube videos. He and his pal, Pep, even had their own Facebook following.
The series of print ads for Knorr required special attention to create the illusion that the digital characters actually existed in the physical world. Using live photography plates of the delicious meals, our digital team created and rendered the little shakers to allow them to interact with the place settings.
The response to the campaign got out of hand, and ultimately a set of real ceramic shakers were produced. It didn’t take too much effort for the visualization team to turn the digital assets into sculpts that could be reproduced as a premium for fans to actually purchase. Ultimately 30,000 pairs of shakers were made, which quickly sold out.
Knorr was very pleased when Salty took home numerous advertising awards in 2010.
